Shock Absorbing Dampers

Converting kinetic motion into sustainable, renewable energy; eliminating batteries and wires for longer lasting technology

Vibration Isolation Rubber for Dual Protection

Yamauchi’s vibration isolation rubber materials are specially designed to offer both shock-absorbing and vibration-isolating properties, ideal for safeguarding large capacity hard disk drives used in PCs and video cameras. These dampers minimize the risk of data loss by protecting against sudden impact and isolating the drive from continuous low frequency vibrations. Developed through years of materials engineering expertise, our solutions are widely adopted by major video camera manufacturers and trusted across the industry for their proven performance and reliability.

What Makes Out Shock Absorbing Dampers Unique?

Advanced Rubber Dampers for HDD Impact and Vibration Protection

Yamauchi’s shock-absorbing dampers are precision-engineered from low-hardness rubber not gel or elastomer offering superior performance in limited spaces. Shock-absorbing dampers are typically produced with low-hardness elastomer or gel materials. These dampers effectively absorb impact from drops and shocks while simultaneously isolating vibration during normal device operation, contributing to stable HDD performance and long-term reliability.

Engineered for Design Flexibility and Long-Term Stability

Unlike gel-based solutions, Yamauchi’s rubber dampers can be molded into complex, compact geometries; tailored for optimal performance in specific devices. The rubber’s crosslinked 3D network ensures durability and resistance to degradation over time, helping improve product life and maintain HDD operational stability. Our dampers are trusted by leading device manufacturers for their proven reliability and adaptability.

Relationship Between Loss Coefficient and Change of Speed

Figure 1 showcases the response of two materials with differing loss coefficients to impact force

  • Red Curve: Material with low loss coefficient
  • Green Curve: Material with a high loss coefficient

Materials with a higher loss coefficient dissipate impact energy more efficiently by converting more of it into heat. As shown, this results in:

  • Lower peak impact force
  • Shorter impact duration

This demonstrates that materials with larger loss coefficients are more effective in attenuating shocks and minimizing vibration transmission, making them ideal for applications requiring high impact resistance.
